Ise Grand Shrine (Ise Jingu) is said to have been built in 690 B.C., and is the oldest shrine in Japan.

It is the largest sanctuary among the approximately 80,000 shrines in Japan and is held in special reverence. It is visited by millions of worshippers annually. Although it is an important cultural property (designated by the national government), it is not registered as a World Heritage site.
It is no exaggeration to say that it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Ise-Shima is a scenic area known as the site of the Ise-Shima Summit held in 2016. Ise Jingu Shrine is said to be “the spiritual home of the Japanese people.
